Frequently Asked Questions...
Q1) What do I need to get a website?
A1) First we need to know if you will be using one of our standard formats,
an existing site that you wish to update or a design from scratch.
In all cases we need any graphics or logos that you may already have.
These can be in the form of business cards, letterhead or mailers that we can scan. Pictures of buildings, tanks,
trucks or people are good to have also. Once you've
determined the basic format of your new site and submitted your
graphics (if required), then we need to know something
about your company.
Tell us your history, your service and
product offerings as well as what makes your company
different or special. Tell us how many people and trucks you
have, the cities and towns you serve. The more you tell
us the better your site will be. Don't worry about wording and
spelling, we'll take care of that for you but nobody
knows your company like you do!
You can provide all of this
information in an email, fax or just call us and we can write it up for you.
Q2) What is Hosting and do I need new hardware to have a website?
A2) Once we develop your website code, it needs to be someplace where the
rest of the world can see it. The code we develop for you must be transferred to a server, or host,
so that it is available on the Internet. A host is simply a computer that has a constant, high speed
connection to the Internet.
Having a website does not require installation of any software code on your desktop computer. Instead,
all your software code, database and files are located on our computer on the Internet. This is what
you pay for with your monthly hosting fee.
Q3) What about E-mail?
A3) Oilwebs will provide you with as many mailboxes as needed, up to 200. So now
instead of having a general purpose mailbox such as with Hotmail or AOL, you can have your own mail address
such as president @myoilcompany.com.
We can setup mail for every employee plus accounts for each department such as for service or
billing.
IMPORTANT! Your website is not directly connected to your office computers in any way! This is a good thing!
